94% of GTM leaders just said AI is not replacing their team

By ·

Over the last 18 months I've read a lot of predictions about the end of the sales rep.

AI SDRs are here.

Autonomous pipelines.

Fully automated outbound.

Then Apollo surveyed over 1,600 GTM leaders and asked them directly.

Would AI replace their teams?

94% said no.

Only 6% think AI is actually coming for their jobs.

So I figured I'd just write about it.

Because that number should be getting more attention than it is.

  1. The hype hasn't matched what operators actually believe.

The AI SDR pitch has been loud.

Really loud.

Board decks. LinkedIn posts. Product launches every other week.

But the people running revenue teams, the ones with quota responsibility and forecast accuracy on the line, aren't buying it.

They've seen the demos.

They've tested the tools.

They've landed on the same conclusion most operators land on eventually.

AI is infrastructure, not headcount.

  1. This is the split I've been building around since we started Advanced Client.

Roughly 90% of the GTM workflow should be automated.

TAM builds. Enrichment. Signal scoring. Campaign logic. CRM hygiene. Routing. Logging.

All of it.

That work is repetitive, data-heavy, and error-prone when humans do it manually.

AI handles it better and faster.

It frees up hours every single week.

  1. The 10% that stays human is why any of it converts.

The phone call where a rep reads hesitation in someone's voice and adjusts.

The follow-up that references something specific from a previous conversation.

The moment trust gets built because a real person showed up with context and actually listened.

No sequence does that.

No AI agent does that.

The reason those calls close deals is precisely because there's a human on the other end doing something a machine can't.

  1. The 6% who think AI will replace reps are usually the ones selling AI SDRs.

Look at who's loudest on this.

Vendors with a product to sell.

Investors with a portfolio company to defend.

The 94% is the honest number. It's the people paying the salaries, running the pipeline reviews, and answering to the board when the quarter misses.

They know what actually closes deals.

  1. What Apollo's data confirms is that this isn't a fringe position anymore.

It's the majority view among the people who actually run GTM.

The companies that win from here will be the ones who automate the backend ruthlessly.

And protect the human conversation like it's their most valuable asset.

Because it is.

The rep isn't the cost centre.

The rep is the reason the £100k deal closes instead of stalling in stage three.

I share this because the AI vs humans debate in sales has become weirdly polarised, and the data is clearer than the noise around it.

Automate the admin. Keep the humans on the phone. Watch the numbers move.
